From 28 February to 3 March 2017, South Australia The Defence State is leading a strong contingent of South Australian defence industry to attend the Australian International Aerospace and Defence Exposition (Avalon 2017), the largest aerospace event in the southern hemisphere.

Why Avalon?

Avalon will showcase all major aerospace companies and include a significant Defence aviation presence along with key industry and Defence executives. Of particular interest to South Australia, presenting significant opportunities for the state will be:

  • P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft
  • a focus on supporting the F35 Joint Strike Fighter
  • companies proposing options for supporting Project AIR 555 special purpose aircraft
  • Project AIR 7003 Armed Unmanned Aerial System
  • companies competing for major project support to Jindalee Over the Horizon Radar Network (JORN), Wedgetail and Distributed Ground Station Australia (DGS-AUS)

The attraction and development of aerospace and systems capabilities are core pillars of the South Australia Defence Strategy 2025. In the aerospace sector, South Australia’s focus is on supporting the introduction and sustainment of the P8 and Triton aircraft; attracting the maritime border surveillance, armed reconnaissance and special purpose aircraft to South Australia; increased local industry involvement in Joint Strike Fighter and major projects; and supporting increased use of Woomera and other test and evaluation opportunities.

Avalon 2017 provides an opportunity to promote South Australia as The Defence State and our natural advantages as a hub for national intelligence and surveillance capabilities and Unmanned Aerial Systems.

The Defence State stand is also proudly part of the Royal Australian Air Force Jericho Trail, in recognition of the state’s involvement since Plan Jericho launched in 2015.

Building on the success of South Australia’s involvement in the 2015 event, Defence SA will have major representation at the event. Come visit South Australia - The Defenece State stand located Hall 3, Stand 3L19.
