A unique opportunity to lead the South Australian Government’s Veterans’ Affairs folio. Reporting to the Chief Executive, Defence SA, the Director is responsible for managing all policies, grants, services and relationships within the veterans’ community and within state and federal governments.
Veterans SA was established to provide support to the veteran community. We work closely with the Veteran’s Advisory Council to provide advice to the Premier on veterans’ matters.
We promote Australia’s wartime history and the significance of national events such as Anzac Day, Remembrance Day and Vietnam Veterans Day. Veterans SA also provide services to promote veterans well-being, collaborate with all ex-service organisations and provide a link or the Veterans community to community directly with the South Australian Government.
The Director, Veterans SA reports to the Chief Executive, Defence SA on all veterans affairs matters and represents the South Australian Government in the veterans’ community in state and national forums. The role manages a small team to develop policies and administer services and grants.
Key Selection Criteria:
- Prior Australian military experience, preferably with active service.
- A comprehensive knowledge of historic and contemporary veterans related matters.
- Awareness of national and local veterans associations and programs.
- A demonstrable history of leading teams and successful programs.
- A proven track record of building successful relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to interpret key information into advice and actions.

This is a contract / term vacancy up to 36 months. The incumbent is required to enter into an annual performance agreement. Work outside of normal hours will be required as will intrastate and interstate travel involving overnight absences.
Management experience in a complex environment dealing with multiple stakeholders is essential. A relevant degree, post graduate qualification and/or formal management qualification is highly desirable.
