The state has a long history of success in defence research, underpinned by strong education and industry alliances.
Science and technology is identified in the Defence White Paper as a key enabler of the successful delivery and sustainment of the nation's enhanced defence capabilities.
Defence science and research is also a key area of focus for South Australia, with potential for significant growth and development. To that end, the state government is partnering with Defence and industry to build on our position as a centre of expertise for defence science and technology.
This work is concentrating on support for research, development and commercialisation of defence-relevant science and technology through collaboration between our universities, industry, and the state and federal governments, particularly the significant Defence Science and Technology research divisions based at Edinburgh Defence Precinct.
The Defence Innovation Partnership brings these key stakeholders together to act as a catalyst for defence research and development collaboration. The Defence Innovation Partnership was formally established in January 2018 and aims to improve the relationship between industry and universities, while building research capability in South Australia.
The Defence Innovation Partnership is a collaborative venture between Defence SA, Defence Science and Technology, and South Australia’s three universities – the University of Adelaide, Flinders University and the University of South Australia.
