The largest Defence procurement in the nation’s history, the Attack class submarine program is an investment of more than $50 billion in Australia’s security based at Osborne Naval Shipyard.
The Australian Government has committed to build 12 regionally superior submarines in Adelaide, creating thousands of jobs, transforming South Australia’s economy and driving innovation across a number of sectors. The project will create significant opportunities for Australian industry throughout the design development, build, and integration and sustainment phases.
The Government announced in April 2016 that France’s Naval Group were the preferred international partner for the submarine design. The first submarine is planned to commence construction in 2023 and is likely to begin entering service in the early 2030s.
