ASC built the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) six Collins Class submarines, sustains the fleet today, and is delivering their Life of Type Extension, ensuring this critical sovereign capability continues well into the future.

In March 2024, ASC was selected by the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) as its Sovereign Submarine Sustainment Partner and one of two Sovereign Submarine Partners (SSPs). This established ASC as the only industry organisation supporting all three phases of the CoA’s Optimal Pathway for Australia to acquire an enduring conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarine capability.

1. In Phase 1, ASC is providing sustainment support for visiting and forward rotating US and UK submarines, including through Submarine Rotational Force – West (from 2027).
2. In Phase 2, it will sustain Australian-flagged Virginia Class submarines (from the early 2030s).
3. And in Phase 3, an incorporated Joint Venture formed by ASC and fellow SSP BAE Systems will build Australia’s SSN-AUKUS submarines. SSN-AUKUS construction will begin by the end of this decade, with the first submarine delivered to the RAN in the early 2040s. ASC will also sustain the future SSN-AUKUS fleet.

In addition, ASC is driving the Australian industry and workforce capability uplift required to deliver these SSN programs; and plays a leading role in training RAN submariners.
