Business focused public relations and reputation management

Hughes is a long-established South Australian communications consultancy with unique experience across the defence sector, and is differentiated by its strategic, business-focused approach.

Hughes has provided strategic communications support to Australian and global defence clients including Naval Group, ASC, Defence SA, the Defence Teaming Centre, Nova Group and global light protected vehicle manufacturer Force Protection Inc – subsequently purchased by General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS).

The Hughes PR senior team has extensive industry and government experience covering all facets of communications, including reputation management and targeted ‘brand building’ campaigns through industry and mainstream media.

Lead Defence Consultant, Mark Williams, has more than 30 years experience in media and public relations at a local and national level, both in government and the private sector. Before joining Hughes in 2006, Mark was an adviser to former Australian Minister for Defence, Senator Robert Hill, with responsibility for policy advice on defence property and infrastructure and as assisting media adviser across all departmental and operational issues. He was also a Media Adviser in the Office of the Premier of South Australia with particular emphasis on transport, urban planning, treasury, and industry and trade.

Consultancy founder and Principal Tim Hughes established Hughes Public Relations in Adelaide more than 25 years ago and has since advised clients in SA, across Australia and internationally on a range of communication issues, driven strong award-winning, brand-building programs and established a national reputation for issues and crisis management counsel.

Key services delivered in-house include:

  • Public relations and publicity
  • Media relations
  • Brand protection – issues and crisis management
  • Government and community relations
  • Event management (announcements/launches)

The skills and experience of other members of the Hughes team would be available to client organisations on an ‘as required’ basis to meet particular needs and realise specific opportunities as they arise. These skills span social and digital media, graphic design and video production.

“A strategic communication and stakeholder engagement program will give your organisation the power to influence action and opinion. Whether your audience is media, government, potential investors, partners or customers, planned professional communication is key to projecting your brand and offering.
