THE MOST EFFICIENT/EFFECTIVE THERMAL DEFENCE INSULATION PRODUCT
In 2015 BAE Systems asked MTE to develop a new thermal insulation product for submarines; a substitute for metallic insulation and calcium silicate. The requirement was for easy removal/reinstallation for inspection/maintenance work to be performed.
MTE’s product has been developed to the requirements and specifications of BAE, Rolls-Royce and the MOD.
MTE has a factory specifically producing thermal insulation parts specified for reactor compartments on Dreadnought submarines, constructed at Barrow. MTE will install thousands of parts at the Barrow yard.
The same Rolls-Royce reactor is to be used on the AUKUS-SSN submarines.
MTE has a subsidiary in South Korea, where it is working with Doosan Nuclear, Doosan Enerbility, Hanwha Ocean and HHI. MTE is working with Kairos Power in the United States on Nuclear Thermal Insulation.

A high-performance microporous insulation material for extreme environments, based on:
• High-performance microporous insulation (Microtherm boards)
• Custom machining into pipe segments and bespoke shapes
• Encapsulation with silicone-coated cloth for durability and handling
The product was developed for high-specification defence applications, and a wide range of specialist industrial applications where high thermal performance within strict space and weight constraints is essential, to
