The $2.5 billion LAND 19 Phase 7B Short-Range Ground-Based Air Defence program was delivered as a key component of Australia’s Joint Integrated Air and Missile Defence (JIAMD) capability.

Raytheon Australia‘s Centre for Joint Integration at Mawson Lakes in Adelaide’s north played a central role in the integration, assembly and support of the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS), working closely with Kongsberg Australia, Australian suppliers and Defence industry partners.

The project scope also included acquiring new radars, missile launchers and command & control systems and integrating the new platforms with existing Army vehicles and radios.

NASAMS is a combat-proven ground-based air defence system which enables the Army to detect, track and defeat a range of airborne threats, including aircraft, helicopters, drones and cruise missiles.

The system combines advanced radars, missile launchers, communications networks and Fire Distribution Centres to provide an integrated command-and-control capability across the battlespace.

South Australian manufacturer REDARC Defence & Space was another Australian industry partner on the program, supplying electro-mechanical equipment, power distribution systems and safety interlock components for the NASAMS Fire Distribution Centre.
