South Australia’s largest ever contingent of local defence industry will showcase their capabilities to some of the world’s biggest defence companies at the leading international maritime exposition, Pacific, held in Sydney from 8-10 October.

Nearly 50 local businesses, research and educational providers are participating on the Defence State stand, along with an additional 17 South Australian companies attending independently.

Defence SA Chief Executive Richard Price said Pacific 2019 is an ideal opportunity for South Australia’s innovative defence industry to connect with international companies and suppliers in the global supply chain for major defence and maritime programs.

“It’s fantastic to see this level of commitment from South Australia’s defence industry,” Mr Price said.

“Pacific is an excellent opportunity for our companies to take advantage of Australia’s submarine and warship programs by building relationships with global partners and strengthening their competitiveness for upcoming business contracts.

“We have a world-class defence industry that is highly capable of supplying Australia’s naval shipbuilding projects, including the Hunter class frigate, Attack class submarine and Arafura class offshore patrol vessel programs.

Mr Price said the agency will highlight the South Australian Government’s progress in enhancing the state’s highly skilled workforce to meet the needs of the defence industry.

“South Australia is well advanced in developing the skilled workforce needed to capitalise on key defence projects. One of the ways we are doing this is through a whole-of-government defence industry workforce and skills strategy,” Mr Price said.   

“Defence SA is leading the implementation of the strategy, which ensures our students, apprentices and existing workers develop and maintain the trade, technical, science and technology skills that will be needed for shipbuilding at all stages of their careers.”   

Over 400 companies, businesses and state and federal government agencies from around 35 countries will be exhibiting at the three-day event.
