Global company Egis joins Defence and Space Landing Pad

Global consulting, construction and engineering company Egis is the latest international giant to join the Defence and Space Landing Pad at South Australia’s Lot Fourteen innovation district.

For more than 40 years, Egis has been operating in Australia, boasting a 20,000-strong workforce and offices across the country.

By expanding its national footprint into South Australia, Egis hopes to capitalise on defence industry opportunities through AUKUS, building on its international expertise in complex nuclear engineering, nuclear governance and waste repositories.

The company is also looking to leverage the state’s strong economy, green energy transition and help address the housing crisis, after securing a contract to develop greenfield engineering standards to accelerate housing supply through SA’s Housing Roadmap.

Egis is part of a growing network of innovative companies to receive support through Defence SA’s Defence and Space Landing Pad, such as Kongsberg, MBDA, CGI and Saber Astronautics. The Landing Pad enables overseas and interstate businesses to establish in South Australia by providing affordable, short-term office facilities and relationship building opportunities.

The Landing Pad has given Egis the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded businesses, while support from the Department of State Development’s Invest SA defence team and the Office of the Agent General in the United Kingdom, has helped launched the business into the South Australian market.

Egis ANZ CEO Alex Yee said the company, which brings national and international experience, is keen to upskill and employ South Australians and become a local company with global capability.

“Egis sees exciting opportunities in South Australia. With the warm welcome and support of the South Australian Government Egis is expanding our current footprint to establish a critical hub in Adelaide,” Yee said.

“We will bring our global expertise in consulting, engineering and operations along with our investment capacity to build further depth within South Australia.

“Egis has had a long interest in South Australia having previously owned a stake in Flinders Ports. We are excited to be expanding our business in South Australia, recently being engaged as the engineering partner for the airport runway upgrade in Whyalla along with pursuing opportunities in defence, water and housing development in the state.”

Minister for Defence and Space Industries Stephen Mullighan said it was no surprise that international companies like Egis are choosing to establish in the state.

“Our state has been ranked the number one place in the country to do business by the Business Council of Australia and is the second top performing economy according to CommSec’s latest State of the States Report,” Minister Mullighan said.

“With its global expertise, Egis will be instrumental in supporting key infrastructure initiatives, particularly helping our growing defence industry maximise opportunities for South Australia out of the AUKUS program.”

Egis continues to engage with government and businesses to explore collaboration opportunities in the South Australian market, with ambitious plans to double its size and turnover both in Australia and globally within the next two years.
