Your journey:Home:Press Releases:Careers expo provides path to success

Thousands of school students and job seekers will descend on the Adelaide Showgrounds over the next two days to take part in the Adelaide Careers and Employment Expo.

More than 80 training organisations, employers and interactive skills zones will showcase traditional and growth industries and training and career pathways available, at the free-to-register event.

“There are more job vacancies in South Australia than ever before and the Expo is a fantastic way to explore career options in some of the state’s fastest-growing industries,” said Minister Pisoni.

“Having a job often leads to more job opportunities in the future, so I urge anyone looking for work or thinking about a change of career to get along to the Adelaide Showgrounds and see the range of opportunities that exist.

“This is your chance to speak to a variety of experts from training organisations and local employers or try the hands-on interactive zones.

“South Australia is emerging strongly from the COVID pandemic and there are employers that are crying out for skilled workers right now.

“In particular, the defence industry is a major source of opportunity, with thousands of jobs being created by $90 billion of continuous naval shipbuilding with a lifespan of more than 50 years.

“There are also significant opportunities also in construction and motor trades and in Hi-Tech sectors like cyber and space.

“This will be showcased at the Expo, with Defence SA collaborating with the Naval Shipbuilding College and defence industry partners to deliver the Defence Industry Zone.

“There are jobs available now across the social care sector, with aged care and disability care one of our state’s fastest growing industries.

“Gaining the right skills and training will put you on the path to a successful career.

“We also know for employers and training organisations, there has never been a better time to take on an apprentice or trainee.

“The Australian Government has extended the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements wage subsidy – up to $28,000 over 12 months for employers.

“The subsidy, applies to all eligible employers who sign up an apprentice or trainee before 30 September 2021.”
