TAFE SA is a trusted workforce development partner, delivering industry-led education and training solutions that support the growth and capability of South Australia’s defence industry.

Working with major defence employers, including ASC and BAE Systems, as well as government agencies and training organisations, TAFE SA designs and delivers customised training programs that address current and future workforce needs.

Further strengthening its contribution to the defence sector, TAFE SA is a key delivery partner in nationally significant workforce initiatives, including the Defence Industry Pathways Program (DIPP) and the Shipbuilding Employment Pathways (SEP) Initiative. In collaboration with PEER and with support from the Australian and South Australian Governments, these programs create employment pathways and develop the critical capabilities required for the future defence workforce.

To meet the evolving requirements of the defence sector, TAFE SA offers apprenticeships, traineeships, vocational qualifications, and higher education pathways, including Associate Degrees, to help build a skilled, future-ready workforce.

The National Security TAFE Centre of Excellence works collaboratively with industry, government, education and research partners to develop and deliver innovative vocational education and workforce development initiatives.

Current areas of focus include:

• Developing and delivering the National Security Mindsetshort course to build national security awareness across apprentices, tradespeople, technicians and the broader vocational workforce.
• Exploring future education and training pathways in critical technologies, including advanced manufacturing, automation, electronics, metrology and dimensional control, and design for sovereign capability.
• Undertaking industry consultation and workforce research to identify emerging skills requirements and address capability gaps across Australia’s national security ecosystem.
• Building strategic partnerships between industry, government, education and research organisations to support nationally significant workforce development and innovation.
• Investigating new approaches to vocational education that enable flexible, responsive and industry-led training aligned to current and emerging national security priorities.

The Centre is supported by an External Industry Advisory Committee, project governance committee, and subject matter expert reference groups, ensuring its initiatives remain informed by specialist expertise, workforce requirements and emerging national priorities.
