Saab Australia (Saab) has secured a three-year contract extension with the Commonwealth of Australia to continue supporting the Australian Army’s Lightweight Multi-Mode Radar (LMMR) system, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the nation’s radar capabilities.
Under the renewed contract, Saab will deliver comprehensive support services including engineering, maintenance, logistics, storage and distribution from its South Australian operations hub at Cavan, in collaboration with equipment manufacturer, SRCTec.
The AN/TPQ-49 LMMR, which Saab has supported since 2015, provides short-range protection against indirect fire and airborne threats. This capability plays a vital role in safeguarding critical assets and enhancing the Army’s ground-based air defence operations.
Saab Australia Managing Director Andy Keough CSC highlighted the strategic importance of the radar system and the enduring partnership with the Australian Defence Force.
“This contract extension builds on Saab’s long-standing partnership with the Australian Army to deliver and sustain ground-based air defence capability,” said Mr Keough.
“Saab’s work supporting critical radar capability draws on decades of experience providing advanced air defence solutions and supporting the Australian Defence Force’s operational readiness across a range of capabilities.”
Headquartered in South Australia since 2004, Saab employs more than 700 staff across the maritime, land, air, space, cyber and civil security domains. The company’s Australian operations are backed by global expertise in radar and sensor technologies, ensuring trusted and proven capabilities for defence forces worldwide.
