Global counter-drone technology company DroneShield has opened a new research and development (R&D) hub at Adelaide’s Lot Fourteen, strengthening South Australia’s defence technology sector.

The ASX-listed company’s first dedicated R&D facility outside its New South Wales headquarters will focus on advanced engineering and product development for counter-drone and electronic warfare solutions.

The hub is expected to create about 20 specialised engineering roles across radio frequency electronics, electronic warfare and systems interoperability. Work undertaken at the facility will support the continued development of DroneShield’s counter-drone technologies and contribute to Australia’s sovereign defence capability.

DroneShield Chief Executive Angus Bean said South Australia’s engineering talent and defence technology ecosystem made Adelaide a natural location for the company’s expansion.

“South Australia is recognised as a national leader in defence and space industries, with Adelaide home to exceptional engineering talent,” Mr Bean said.

“Establishing at Lot Fourteen our first dedicated R&D facility outside of our headquarters is a natural step, given the strong alignment between the innovation district’s defence and high-tech ecosystem, and DroneShield’s mission.

“DroneShield’s new facility in South Australia represents a major milestone in our continuous efforts to enhance Australia’s counter-drone capabilities.”

The South Australian Government supported the establishment of the hub through its Investment Accelerator Program, which is designed to attract innovative, high-growth interstate companies to South Australia and generate skilled, well-paid jobs in priority sectors.

DroneShield joins more than 160 organisations at Lot Fourteen, including defence and space organisations, research and educational institutions, and global technology companies.

The facility adds expertise in emerging technologies to South Australia’s defence ecosystem and reinforces the state’s position as a centre for defence innovation and advanced engineering, as well as a globally competitive destination for national and international investment.
