Aurizn and PMB Defence partner on nuclear submarine batteries

Two South Australian defence companies have entered into a new partnership to support the United Kingdom’s nuclear submarine program, strengthening local industry involvement in AUKUS Pillar I work.

Under the agreement, Aurizn, a leading provider of cutting-edge technology solutions, will provide specialist technical support for electrical battery systems as part of PMB Defence’s delivery of advanced submarine battery capability to the Royal Navy submarine fleet.

Aurizn Chief Executive Officer Rebecca Humble said the partnership brings together complementary expertise from both companies.

“We are pleased to partner with PMB Defence on this important program,” Ms Humble said. “This collaboration brings together the strengths of two South Australian companies working to support a critical national initiative.”

PMB Defence, a long-standing supplier to the Royal Australian Navy, said the partnership would enhance its growing supply chain supporting AUKUS Pillar 1, which focuses on nuclear-powered submarines.

“We are proud to continue growing our supply chain for AUKUS Pillar 1 work in Australia,” PMB Defence General Manager New Technologies Mike Hartas said. “Aurizn offers PMB unique capabilities that significantly enhance our technology, and we are pleased to have them on board.”

Aurizn will deliver analytical and engineering support aimed at improving system understanding, informing design decisions and supporting performance assessment. This work will complement PMB Defence’s broader program and its development of advanced battery technology.

The collaboration underscores the role of South Australian industry in delivering complex defence capability under the AUKUS agreement.

“We look forward to building a strong working relationship with PMB Defence,” Ms Humble said. “Together, we are supporting the delivery of next-generation submarine capability for Australia and our AUKUS partners.”

Aurizn has more than 20 years’ experience supporting defence and national security missions, while PMB Defence has supplied submarine batteries to the Royal Australian Navy since 1988 and expanded into advanced systems for multiple international navies.
