BAE Systems Australia has awarded a 10-year contract to Australian naval contractor Eptec Defence Solutions to supply critical abrasive blast and paint services to the Hunter Class Frigate Program.
With a team based at South Australia’s Osborne Naval Shipyard, Eptec has been providing blast and paint services to the Royal Australian Navy for over 25 years.
The contract with BAE Systems Australia is the largest in Eptec’s history and will see the company support the first three Hunter class anti-submarine warships, being constructed at the Osborne.
Paul Berryman, Acting Managing Director of BAE Systems Maritime Australia, said the company was looking forward to a strong and successful partnership with Eptec.
“Blast and paint services are a critical factor when it comes to ensuring the longevity of each frigate and the Eptec team is renowned for its global expertise and capability in the preservation of naval ships,” Mr Berryman said.
“Construction of the first three Hunter class frigates is creating real opportunities for our trusted industry partners and ensures we work together to build an industry focused on continuous naval shipbuilding.”
A specialist in defence, marine, and industrial rehabilitation, Eptec is also a key partner in BAE Systems Australia’s Partnering4Success program, which strengthens collaboration with small and medium enterprises and supports local industry participation in major defence projects.
Pier Nissotti, General Manager of Eptec Defence Solutions said the contract marks a significant milestone for the company and ensures continuity of work for its South Australian employees.
“This contract is the culmination of a decade of focused investment in our defence safety, quality, people, technology and equipment; and clearly demonstrates the unique delivery capabilities Eptec offers key defence clients,” Mr Nissotti said.
“As the largest Australian industry provider of our specialised services, our capabilities and track record of successful project delivery are unmatched.”
