Local companies join forces for sovereign capability

Four South Australian manufacturing companies have partnered under a new global brand to offer integrated sovereign manufacturing services to the aerospace and defence industry.

Officially launching at Avalon 2023, Hephaestus Global comprises two independent defence manufacturing organisations, Toolcraft Australia and Mitchell & Cheesman, as well as engineering companies, Carr Components and Sharman Sheetmetal & Fabrication.

With a mission to support a robust manufacturing industry and grow local employment, Hepahaestus Global will leverage the collective capabilities of the subsidiaries to create innovative and sustainable solutions.

The group’s capabilities cover the manufacturing process from design to delivery, including:

  • tooling and engineering
  • machining and assembly
  • sheetmetal and fabrication
  • pressing and forming
  • painting and powdercoating
  • prototyping and development.

Hephaestus Global Director, Bill Sardelis, said the brand’s story parallels that of its namesake, the Greek god Hephaestus – a metalworker who made weapons and military equipment.

“After the downturn of engineering and manufacturing in Australia, our current and future collective unites under Hephaestus Global to provide a comprehensive range of services to our clients,” said Mr Sardelis.

“Sovereign capability development is not just a buzz phrase for us; it encompasses everything we do.”
